Indian Restaurants in Vilamoura, Algarve.

Indian King Palace (Tandoori) 5/8/05       (5 out of 10)

The Indian Palace is situated behind the marina in a delightful courtyard setting.  As we sat down a family were in dispute with a waiter over the temperature of a chicken tikka starter.  Despite numerous complaints the waiter would not accept that there was a problem.  Finally, the family walked out, paying only for the drinks they’d had and leaving an army of waiters and staff behind who were doing their best to retain the family at their table.  We were given free popoddoms and an array of different coloured sauces in small glass dishes, and ordered Chicken Kcacutti and Chicken Pattaya.  Not too bad but the chicken was tough and probably not the freshest.

Kohinoor            11/8/05    (7 out of 10)

Another restaurant situated behind the marina, and again in a courtyard close to a thai restaurant.  We sat on the veranda overlooking bars and restaurants in the courtyard below.  Free popoddoms with a good selection of chutneys and sauces and 10% off by presenting the map with their ad on it.  We ordered chicken dupiaza and chicken dansak.  This time the chicken was tender.  Overall this was probably our favourite of the three.

Moharaja          13/8/05    (6 out of 10)

We sat indoors, although there were tables outside within the Hotel Olympus entrance-way.  The air conditioning wasn’t working very well so we might have been better off outside.  A tray of snacks with carrots, popoddoms -type crisp bits and coloured sauces was placed in front of us as we sat down.  They’d run out of menus which had cost Mrs Moray 500 euros.  Yes, we heard the full history of her husband’s health and treatments and their life together, why the remote wasn’t working on the drop down projector etc, etc; but all in all she was very friendly and hospitable.  Finally we found a menu and placed an order.  The chicken dupiaza, (hot), was excellent and the portions were good.  We also had a free bottle of red wine by showing a leaflet.  Free schnapps with the bill which was presented in a wooden ‘da-vinci’ type casket.  Almost the best of the 3 restaurants but the the tender chicken and the setting of the Kohinoor just swung it.
