This year we all met up at the Glebe in Stoke except Zolette and John Hotdog Carter who would meet us later. Once we'd convened we were led round to Stoke's Train station where a London Midland train was caught in a south westerly direction. Spread out over a couple of carriages all eyes were on the Yupmeister to see where we'd be getting off. Jumping off at Lichfield Trent Valley came as no surprise to many who had voted for it as the final destination. Would they be correct?? Sadly, the train connection to the City Station appeared to disappear off the departure board so a mile long walk became the only option remaining. Zolette appeared as though from nowhere to join us, having endured a 4 hour journey to join us. |
After a longish walk along the main Burton Road into Lichfield we
arrived at the first pub, The Duke of
York.
http://www.joulesbrewery.co.uk/pubs//pub_details.php?id=7 This was a Joules pub and pork pies and an abundance of chutneys were provided, much needed after the unforeseen early exercise. The first pint was included which managed surprisingly to confuse several somehow. |

To put us back on track we left earlier than anticipated and walked through the very picturesque and illuminated City Centre to our next destination, the Horse and Jockey.
The Horse and Jockey has only recently opened but has become very popular and famous for it's selection of real ales. Golden Glow and Goats milk were favourites amongst those available tonight. www.horseandjockeylichfield.co.uk
All sections of the bar were packed but the service was excellent. A dart
board in a back room tempted us in and provided us with some breathing space and
a fun filled session.
The intention was to enjoy half an hour in the Horse & Jockey before moving to yet another city centre pub, The Kings Head. A few moved on as intended from the packed atmosphere to the Kings Head but reported back that the ales available were poor. Those remaining returned indoors for a further game of darts in the back room. |
Did you see which way Yuppy went youth??Sorry, come again, I can't hear you.
Picking up those who'd moved on and stayed at the Kings Head we continued to the Lichfield Cathedral where a Scragg's coach was lurking nearby. Moving away from Lichfield we headed towards Burton upon Trent, much to the disappointment of those who'd voted for Lichfield hee hee ........ |
It was only 20 minutes to Burton but the tension was too much for many who took the opportunity for a wee break just before we arrived at the Coopers Tavern.

The Coopers Tavern was packed and it took great efforts to get
to the bar, or the toilets which were accessed through the outside yard. After finally getting everyone back on to the coach a few announcements were made There was just one bah humbug this year, who didn't place a vote for the final destination and that disgraceful honour fell on Brian Edwards The Runner up prize this year went to Mothy who was reasonably near but in addition he also mentioned one of the pubs in Lichfield that we visited earlier. The winner, unbelievably, went to Joseph, based purely on being the nearest. |
It was the a further 20 minutes on the coach to the indian, The
Barn at Marchington. With an integral real ale bar with Bishops Farewell
on tap, what more could we want?

The award ceremony began immediately after the meat platter
starters with the Bah Humbug, B.Ed assisting Yuppers. The shameful ‘LAST TO PAY’ booby prize was awarded to Moonbeam amongst a show of disgust. The awards ceremony was shortened slightly this year for several reasons. One of which was to provide time to pay a tribute to Dashers son James, which was immediately followed by a round of applause in his memory. There was a plentiful supply of 4 main dishes provided with nan breads and rice.

Maybe it was one of the best ever Mystery Doos?? It had certainly took it's toll on several who were caught sleeping there way back home.
Here's to next year ..................... Yuppers |
