Up for it were: Yup, Mid week Tone, Pedro, Richee, Keithees up for it, Jaycee, Huge, Dasher, Malc Jay, Craigee, DCeen, Spikelet, Mr Tahoohigh, Bolt, Brockee, Ali G, Mr Seeweed, Mr Hayward, Scottee Harmesh and Matt joined us for drinks only due to other more pressing engagements. What could be more pressing than a curry? Granpop Bill was also missing having been sentenced to a few weeks in quarantine following a dose of radiation. |
||
Several of us began from stand 11 at Newcastle bus station at 17.13. The no 98 bus was bang on time. It was a freezing cold night but Tone was well prepared with his ‘winter hat’. Jaycee turned up with a stiff neck and a virus on his pc. Them Trojans get everywhere.
First stop was the Bull’s Head and the Titanic steerage was sampled. The pub was quiet until we arrived, so we opted to move on quickly to the Duke, 50 yards up the road.
Their Oakham’s Citra was on top form until it sadly ran out, so a poor second choice Doombar was substituted. Joules ales were also available so it wasn’t all doombar and gloom.
Discussions turned to the impending gliding doo proposed later in the year. ‘It should be combined with a shooting night’, someone suggested. ‘We could then shoot em all down’. Based on the accuracy of the previous shooting doo I think everyone would be safe !!
With time running away we moved to the Leopard which was packed out. Hoof Hearted Northumberland and a stout from Woodlands were favourite tipples.
Scottee turned up unannounced, not for the first time, as Matt Silver Bear and Harmesh left for their more pressing engagements. |

The Nazmin Indian, recommended by Ali G, was booked for 9pm. Amazingly we ordered no wine and stuck with Cobras.
It was noted that 3 out of the group on the table had already retired, namely Phil H, Malc Jones and Pedro. How many would it be next month?

Keithee, admiring Dasher’s ability of not having to regularly nip to the gents commented, ‘for a man with a little nob you’re doing very well !’. Now how would he know?
It was warm in the Indian. Dasher, still wondering how Keithee knew, took his jumper off. ‘You wouldn’t like Benidorm youth, it’d be too hot for you’, Keithee added, as he took his rennies out for the third time tonight.

We were all stodged, even Pedro, who hadn’t had a starter. He did manage however to grab a handful of after 8 mints. The feedback on the food was pretty good and at £15 including cobras you couldn’t grumble.

For some, it was a short return back to the Leopard and several caught taxis home. For others it was a quick exit to catch the bus at 22.54, directly opposite the Indian. The journey back was a bargain at £1.80 for Yuppy who stayed on the warm bus at Newcastle. Quick to hop off, Jaycee and Dceen had to queue in the cold night air until the doors swung open again so they could hop back on again and return to their seats for the last leg to Clayton, and with an extra £1.80 to pay they weren’t too pleased. Hee hee !!
